A POEM : THE AFTERMATH

Ask not whence the thundar cometh, ask not
why the birds have ceased their songs, ask not
where be the crown nor why the land is made
desolate, ask not why death itself seeks to die. Ask not why the sun gazes upon the earth with
bloodshot eyes, ask not why the mountains have
rejected the blood sacrifices and the sea the flesh
sacrifices. Ask not why thou shouldst behold death before
thy face, and thou plead to be taken and he shall
flee from thee.Ask not why hades mourns and
mocks Ask not why thy woe and thy foe are one with
thee... for the days of reconing are gone from us
and this is the aftermath.
